Complicated

I always overthink when I start writing. I want my work to carry emotional weight. But, it is too easy to think that being verbose actually means that your words have weight.

I read a poem by a friend of mine. The language was simple, but the message was profound. I really enjoyed it.

Sometimes you can't make things too complicated for the sake of sounding intelligent.

Though I did read the above sentence with a poetry drummer beat in my head.

Visitor Time

J Leezy visited for a weekend. It was a lot of fun. Or maybe it was alot of fun.

Ate tons of New Mexico food. Went to a few national parks. And a cool, but odd art exhibit. Went to a graduation party with many new people. Argued over the way the law should operate. All in all a good time.

We also watched the Season 6 finale of Game of Thrones. It was amazing. Lena Headley better get an Emmy.

Lyric of the Day: Joywave - Somebody New
"With my eyes on the prize
Not a thing to my name
With my head in the clouds
And my body don't waste

Don't wanna ever wake up
Don't wanna ever wake up, I don't
Don't wanna ever wake up

Next to somebody new"

Summer is Coming

It has been a while since I last posted. All I have been doing is playing Magic, camping, following the news (especially the election), and watching Cutthroat Kitchen.

Re-reading my old posts I realized that I did a kinda crappy job making sure that things were set up to trigger memories.

I would be annoyed at it, but then again that is kind of poetic.

No matter how much we try to preserve the past, we can't.

And thus we are doomed to repeat our mistakes.

Trite, but true.

And also (once again) one of my favorite ending lines in all of literature is relevant:

"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."

I'll stop making this post when it stops being true.

Lyric of the Day: Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye
"I've been waiting
I've been waiting for this moment all my life

But it's not quite right"

Back to the kitchen

For the past couple months I have gotten pretty bad in terms of ordering out every night. This week I finally decided that I needed to put an end to that.

I went out and got myself a rice cooker, because one of the things that was hindering me was the fact that my rice was kind of bad. Food prep is less rewarding when you know that it will be served on undercooked rice.

I had gotten some Green Curry Seasoning on my last trip up to Santa Fe (Hilariously, the friend who was the impetus for my trip there also caused this post). So today I made Green Curry Chicken with Veggies.

It came out pretty well and now it means I have lunch packed for the week. I guess this is short, but at least it has pictures :)

On a side note I went to Prerelease for the new magic set this weekend and ended up winning a total of 3 packs.

Lyric of the Day: Panic at the Disco - Hallelujah
"I was drunk and it didn't mean a thing.
Stop thinking about,
The bullets from my mouth.

I love the things you hate about yourself.
Just finished a daydream,
Who were you tryna be?"

New Year, Same Me?

The universe may be a constantly changing and transient place, but I will forever forget to take pictured for this blog. Though I guess since I'm not in the Land of Enchantment that is ok.

Just finished playing Don't Starve with a bestie and his GF. It was pretty fun and summarized how I've been spending my down time. Playing video games and eating homecooked food. All in all a good break.

I also managed to read something that has been on my reading list for a long time. And rewatched a season of a show with my dad, while watching a new season of another show with my mom. Balance in all things, right?

Lyric of the day: Echosmith - Tell Her You Love Her
"But don't you run away, run away,
When you get tired.
'Cause this will slip away, slip away,
And start a fire.

That can never be put out.
Oh, hurry time is running out.
But don't you run away, run away,
Before you tell her
You love her"
